The story behind Ocean Art 2019 — Novice Wide Angle
第一次參加國際比賽
2019 年是我第一次把作品送到國際水下攝影比賽。當時還抱著「投投看，看有沒有機會」的心情。
結果那一年的 Ocean Art Underwater Photo Competition 開獎，新人廣角組——第一名（金牌）拿下。同年同個分組，我還拿到第二名、第三名；新人微距組第三名也是同一年。等於是用四件作品在同一年，把新人組的領獎台幾乎包圍。
為什麼是「Novice」？
Ocean Art 把新人組（Novice）獨立出來，是為了區隔職業 / 進階攝影師的賽道，讓剛投入的攝影師有自己的舞台。但這個分組的審稿同樣嚴格——評審群仍是國際級的。
對攝影師而言，新人組得名是一個「進入水下攝影世界的入場券」——它證明你的作品在國際標準下站得住。多數國際得獎水下攝影師的職業生涯，都是從這樣的時刻開始。
Ocean Art 是什麼樣的比賽
Ocean Art Underwater Photo Competition 由 Underwater Photography Guide 主辦，是全球規模最大的水下攝影比賽之一，每年參賽作品來自上百個國家。
這個比賽以「分組明確、獎項實際、評審公正」聞名——不只是給虛名，獎項通常包含實體攝影器材（相機、防水殼、外接燈具等），對新人攝影師來說更實際。
從 2019 到 2022 的「世界冠軍」
2019 年的 Novice 第一，是個起點。三年後（2022 年），我以《鏡面倒影》拿下 Ocean Art 公開組——人像組第一名（世界冠軍）。從新人到世界冠軍，這段路是國際比賽認證下的「成長軌跡」。
First time entering an international competition
2019 was the first year I submitted work to an international underwater photography competition. The mindset at the time was honestly: "Let's try it and see if anything happens".
When Ocean Art Underwater Photo Competition announced results that year — Novice Wide Angle, 1st Place (Gold). In the same category that same year I also took 2nd Place and 3rd Place; Novice Macro 3rd Place came out of the same submission round. Four images, one year, almost the entire Novice podium.
Why "Novice"?
Ocean Art separates the Novice category from open / advanced divisions to give photographers earlier in their journey their own stage. But the judging is still international — the same caliber of jury reviews these entries.
For a photographer, a Novice win functions as an entry ticket into the underwater photography world — it confirms that your work holds up against international standards. Most internationally-awarded underwater photographers have a career arc that starts at exactly this kind of moment.
What Ocean Art is, as a competition
Ocean Art Underwater Photo Competition is hosted by Underwater Photography Guide and is one of the largest underwater photography competitions globally, drawing entries from over a hundred countries each year.
The competition is known for clearly defined categories, substantive prizes, and credible judging — beyond the title, awards typically include actual underwater photography equipment (cameras, housings, strobes), which matters more for newer photographers.
From 2019 to 2022 — debut to "world champion"
The 2019 Novice 1st was the starting point. Three years later (2022), Mirror Reflection took 1st Place in the Open Portrait category at Ocean Art — the world champion title. From Novice to world champion, this is a documented progression on international competition record.
